Lucky Number Seven

Good day everyone. Mom and I visited my pediatrician on Monday and I weighed 7 pounds on the button. Dr Weinberg said I looked magnificent. I haven't gone out much because it has been very cold and mommy and daddy are busy rearranging the house for me. They changed the computer room into my new play room. It will be nice because I can play while mommy makes dinner and she can still see me. I have been learning alot because mommy and daddy read to me everyday. Here's my daddy and I reading Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein.

Also, I have been getting to know my toys. I have chosen a favorite already. His name is Bard and he is a dinosaur rattle. He sleeps with me and even went to Sams Club in my carseat tonight. I also learned the joys of shopping in bulk and driving home in a near blizzard, but I knew we'd be alright because Bard was at my side. Here is a picture of me and my new friend Bard.

On Thursday, mommy and daddy are taking me to meet a new friend named Ben. Ben is a baby too and he has had many challenges in his life. You can read about him at http://randallfam.livejournal.com Daddy went to school at Univ of Michigan and met Ben's daddy Scott. Scott and daddy also work together. I'm excited to meet them and plan on taking lots of pictures of Ben and me.

Our next appointment at the Univ of Michigan is Feb 8th. We're gearing up for the long appointment. Mommy will bring plenty of bottles this time. Last time we were there for almost 5 hours and mommy didn't plan well. I was starving before we got home.

We're also looking forward for more visitors. We have the whole month of Feb to ourselves so far. The first weekend of March, Grandma Kris, Deb Millwright and her girls, Emily and Kayla, are coming. The second weekend of March, Grandma and Grandpa Otteman, Uncle Josh and my soon to be Aunt Maria (they're getting married in June) will be visiting too. Grandpa Larson is already planning a return trip in late March.

It's good to read all of your wonderful comments. I enjoy them immensely. Until next time. So long.

Viking Visit

Hi to all my loyal readers. It has been a week since my last post. A lot has happened since then. On Thursday my grandpa Larson arrived from the frozen north (Minnesota). He brought with him some Vikings outfits for next season. I wasn't quite able to yank on his beard yet, but next time I see him I'll attempt to pull all the hair out. We just hung out at the house all weekend. I'm learning to play dice and Rummy, soon I'll beat everyone. On Sunday we cried as the Bears beat the Saints, but cheered right up as the Colts defeated their Nemesis and the bane of the football world (The Patriots). Here's a picture of Grandpa Larson and I getting to know each other. On Monday Gpa Larson and I hung out in the morning while Mom got ready for our doctors visits. Here's a good pic he took of me lounging in my room and staring out the window.

Mom and I went to Ann Arbor today to see our doctors and to pick up a few things at Target, including curtains for my room. Mom's visit went well. At my doctor, we found out that I weigh 6 pounds and 9 ounces!! I am hitting the mark of 1 ounce a day that my docs want me to gain. I received a shot of a medicine called Synagis today to help me fight off RSV if I am unlucky enough to get it. It was recommended due to my CF. That hurt, I cried for at least 2 minutes and it made my Mom cry too. I'll leave you with one more picture of me, I think I need a bigger bed!! Take care everyone. Hope to meet you all someday.

My own place in the house.

Hello everyone. Lots of happenings since my last post. I had visitors from Iowa all weekend. Jessica Ray, her fiancee Jason Unruh, and Matt Redling came for a visit just to see me. They got in late Friday night and stayed until Monday morning. Saturday was a big day for my parents. It was the first time they left me home. They took Jessica, Jason, and Matt out to eat and I stayed here at home with my babysitter Danny Shivel. Danny is a nurse that works with Mommy. We had a good time watching Fiddler on the Roof.

On Sunday, Jason, Matt, and our neighbor Daryl Lee helped Daddy go to Babies R Us and pick up all of my furniture. Jason and Matt helped Dad put it together which was great because Dad didn't get frustrated at all since he had the extra hands. Then the three of them took me downstairs to watch football while Jessica and Mom decorated my room. Check out the pictures below, I'm already spoiled. Later that night Mom asked Jason and Jessica to be my Godparents and they gladly accepted.

Today I had a doctor's appointment to check my weight gain. I weighed in at six pounds, two and a half ounces. Dr. Weinberg said I looked wonderful and the weight gaining is marvelous!! That's all for now. Grandpa Larson will be here on Thursday so I'm sure I'll have more to tell after another visitor comes. I figured I have to include a picture of me with every post, so here is one of Jessica and Jason holding me. We love you all, Goodbye.

Happy B-Day to ME

Hello world wide web. I am one month old today. I celebrated by hanging out in my glider and sleeping while Mom did housework. Here's a pic of my glider since someone asked what it was. We (Mom and I) also went for a ride to Lowe's to get curtains and to Staples to get printer ink and paper.

Yesterday was my marathon doctor appointment. I say marathon because it lasted over four hours. I went to The University of Michigan to see a specialist about my CF. We met two doctors, a nurse, a nutritionist, and a social worker, plus I had my blood drawn for tests and I had a chest X-ray taken. They gave Mom and Dad a lot of info in the form of pamphlets, books, and DVDs.

What we learned: I'll be getting enzymes every time I eat to help me digest my food. I'll also get ADEK (a vitamin supplement containing vitamins A, D, E, and K) once a day. I'll have visits to the University every month for my first year, then it should slow down to once every three months. Later on I'll have lung clearing exercises and inhaled medications. Oh, I forgot my good news...I gained another 6 ounces in only four days!! I weighed 5 pounds 14 ounces!! I'll be as big as my Daddy someday...ok, maybe not that big... I'll have weekly visits to my regular pediatrician (Dr. Weinberg) to make sure I keep gaining weight. After all the excitement yesterday, I was pooped...see below. Goodbye everyone.

Working Mom, sign language, and bathing

Hi everyone. It was a great weekend, I got to watch football (sleep) while Mommy slaved away in my bedroom. She painted my room over the weekend. The color is Del Coronado Tequila, but don't worry, there is no real tequila in my room. I've also been busy teaching Mom and Dad sign language, see the picture below for the "I'm hungry" sign.

Here's another pic of me giving the "I'm tired" sign.

In other big Luke news, my umbilical cord is gone!! Daddy found it stuck to my leg during a late night diaper changing session. Today, since I am cord free, I received my first bath where I got to be submerged in water. Wooohoooo, no more dirty spit baths, spit really isn't very clean. I was a crying baby (imagine that) during the start, but when Dad got me in the tub and fully covered with water (except for my head) I calmed down. I didn't even pee like Dad thought I would. I'm looking forward to a calm week at home before our friends Jessica and Jason arrive from the homeland (Iowa). Good bye everyone, we love you.

I'm a growing boy!!

Hi everyone. Today was a big day. I went in to Ann Arbor to have lunch with Dad and a bunch of his coworkers. I met a lot of new people and they all said I was very cute. I got passed around a bit so people could hold me. Then Dad had to go back to work so Mom and I went shopping at Target. After Target it was time for my doctor's appointment to check my weight. I was 5 pounds 8 ounces!! I gained 4 ounces since Tuesday and the doctor was very glad to see that. I'm just chillin' at home now gearing up for the first weekend of playoff football. Dad watches the games and I sleep. Grandma Ann claims I find football boring, but I'm really only planning on sleeping because the Vikings aren't playing. I am happy to see all the comments you are leaving me, but can I ask one favor? Please leave your full name so I know who you are!! I know a lot of people with the same first name. Mom and Dad are planning to print these blogs and comments and put together a book of them for me later. Thanks. Now, it is time for new pictures. The grasshopper outfit was from Grandma Kris and the blue outfit was from Daddy's friend Ed.

My first post.

Hello everyone. We had a doctor's visit on Tuesday and Luke weighed a whopping 5 pounds 4 ounces. We are feeding him regularly and he is eating like a champ. We are heading back to the doctor on Friday to see how much weight he's gained.

We also received some bad news. Luke has been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). It was not a complete shock to us since we knew we were both carriers of the gene that causes it. Our pediatrician is getting us hooked up with a specialist from The University of Michigan's Pediatric Pulmonology Center. Information on CF can be found at The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (http://www.cff.org). For now we are just going to monitor him closely and love him as much as possible. We will post an update on Luke's weight and a new picture tomorrow. Take care everyone.

Here is a nice picture of Luke's "I'm scared" face.
